'No dirt can stick on me' - Baffour Awuah breaks silence after EOCO detention

Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has called on prosecutors to substantiate the allegations against him in court, insisting that the claims must be backed by evidence capable of establishing criminal liability. The MP maintained that he has done nothing wrong and remains focused on his duties as a legislator and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings. Speaking to the media after appearing in court on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Nana Baffour Awuah described the case as a witch-hunt and argued that the allegations should be determined through the judicial process rather than public discussions and claims made in the media. “I have, through it all, been in very good spirits and I’m extremely grateful to the people of Ghana who have seen through the propaganda of the NDC. The support they’ve given me is massive, and I will assure them that I am indeed above board. No dirt can stick on me,” he said. Court grants Manhyia South MP GH¢10 million bail with two sureties He challenged the prosecution to take its allegations before the court and provide evidence to demonstrate why he should face criminal conviction. “It’s not about releasing untested evidence to the media. Come to court and come and prove that whatever you are alleging amounts to guilt on my part, for which reason you think the court should convict me,” he added. His comments come after he was detained and questioned by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over an investigation into alleged financial offences linked to SIC Life Savings and Loans. The investigation concerns allegations including criminal conspiracy, financial loss, money laundering and tax-related offences. The MP has since been admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢10 million by the High Court, with the court requiring him to remain available to investigators while the case proceeds. He is scheduled to appear before the court again on October 26 and November 2, 2026, at 10 a.m. Nana Baffour Awuah also expressed appreciation to the leadership of Parliament and his fellow lawmakers for their support throughout the matter. He said the backing from his party, Parliament and the people of Manhyia South had further strengthened his determination to continue serving in his capacity as MP. “My constituency has been amazing. I really love all of them, and they will be rest assured that my commitment to you remains resolute. This is not going to deter me,” he said.
