More than 72,000 Telecel Ghana customers have been affected by network disruptions after two major fibre cuts occurred in parts of the Central Region and surrounding areas. Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, disclosed in a Facebook post that the cuts occurred along the Accra-Winneba and Winneba-Cape Coast routes. According to the Minister, the incident has affected about 72,754 subscribers connected to 181 Telecel network sites. The affected areas include Winneba, Agona Swedru, Nyakrom, Kwanyako, Apam, Mumford, Mankessim, Assin Fosu and Twifo Praso. Parts of the Kasoa-Weija area, including Awutu Bereku, Bawjiase, Tuba, New Weija, West Hills Mall, Dark Bortianor and Aplaku Bortianor, have also been affected. Telecel engineers have been deployed to the affected areas to repair the damaged fibre and restore network services. The Minister said another team was engaging the road contractor to stop further digging and prevent additional damage to the network. He apologised to affected customers and expressed confidence that services would be restored as quickly as possible.
