'Nobody can stop me from loving Stonebwoy' – Shatta Wale declares on stage

At the annual ShattaFest, which has become one of the biggest outdoor concerts in Ghana, Dancehall musician Shatta Wale surprised fans when he mounted the stage in Ho, Volta Region, and expressed his admiration for who many consider to be his rival in the Dancehall fraternity, Stonebwoy. On October 3, 2026, at the Youth Resource Centre in Ho, Shatta Wale told fans gathered at the concert grounds that nobody could ever “stop him from loving Stonebwoy.” The ‘On God’ hitmaker reiterated that nobody could use the media to make him stop supporting the work of his colleague, Stonebwoy. According to the Dancehall artiste, he does not have any enemies, insisting that what people hear from outside is not necessarily the reality. He said he has given his life to God and, therefore, does not want to fight anybody. The admiration did not end with his comments. After making the pronouncement loudly on stage, Shatta Wale’s DJ on the night played Stonebwoy’s 2020 hit song, “Putuu Freestyle (Pray),” with Shatta Wale subsequently performing along to the song on stage. 'I just don't want you to be my friend' – Shatta Wale tells Stonebwoy “They cannot stop me from loving Stonebwoy. They cannot stop me from supporting what Stonebwoy does. Everything somebody tells you in Volta, that be fucking. I don’t have any enemies. I’ve given my life to God a long time ago. I don’t want to fight anybody,” he said. The Dancehall sensation’s ShattaFest has become an annual celebration following the overwhelming success of the 2025 edition. The 2026 edition in the Volta Region also featured performances from some notable Ghanaian acts. One of the region’s finest musicians, Chief One, was on stage to support the Dancehall musician, while dance groups DGL Academy and DWP Academy were also in attendance for the celebration. Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is one of Ghana’s celebrated Reggae-Dancehall musicians. He has a litany of hit songs, including “Dancehall King,” “My Level” and “Taking Over.” His feature on Beyoncé’s “Already” further elevated his brand on the international stage, cementing his place as one of Ghana’s biggest music exports. He has won a number of awards both locally and internationally and has cultivated a loyal fan base that continues to support his work.
