‘GH¢1m was a GFA loan’ - Aduana FC boss Takyi Arhin claims

The GH¢1m given to each Ghana Premier League club ahead of the 2026-27 season was a loan secured by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), according to Aduana FC General Manager Takyi Arhin.
Arhin's comments come after Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams confirmed that the government was providing financial support for the new Ghana Premier League season.
Adams said the funding was intended to help clubs become financially sustainable and eventually reduce their reliance on government support.
But Arhin said the money given to the 18 Premier League clubs was not a direct government grant.
"The GH¢1 million given to each Ghana Premier League club was not given to us by the government. It was a loan secured by the GFA and facilitated by the government," he told Sporty FM.
"The GFA is going to pay it back."
The GFA announced the GH¢1m incentive package for each of the 18 clubs before the start of the season, with the money intended to help teams meet their operational costs.
Arhin's explanation differs from the description of the funding as government support and raises questions about the nature of the financial arrangement between the government and the GFA.
The 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season began in September, with the funding package designed to provide clubs with additional financial support during the campaign.
