Mourinho to consider Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei for Villarreal clash

Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei has emerged as a potential solution to Real Madrid’s defensive crisis ahead of their La Liga clash against Villarreal on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, head coach José Mourinho called the 21-year-old into first-team training on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and was impressed by his performance, raising the possibility of Naasei being included in the squad for the Villarreal game.
Naasei, who plays primarily as a centre-back but can also operate at right-back, joined Real Madrid from Granada in August 2026 and has since been featuring for the club’s reserve side, Castilla.
The Accra-born defender has already made a positive impression since moving to Madrid, having featured in Castilla’s opening matches of the season. Mourinho also watched him in action during Castilla’s 2-0 win over Torremolinos in September.

Real Madrid’s shortage at centre-back has forced Mourinho to consider options from the academy. Dean Huijsen is suspended, Raúl Asencio is recovering from surgery, while Éder Militão is still working his way back from injury. Ibrahima Konaté’s fitness is also being monitored.
Naasei could therefore receive his first opportunity with the senior Real Madrid team if Mourinho decides to include him against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu.
