Abeiku Santana seeks minister's intervention over 'unreachable' GTA CEO

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, has appealed to the Tourism Minister to help resolve difficulties he faces in accessing his boss, the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto. In a letter dated October 22, 2026, and addressed to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Abeiku said the difficulty in meeting the CEO was affecting his work and delaying important decisions. He explained that he needed regular consultations with the CEO to obtain guidance and approval on matters relating to domestic tourism, special events and marketing. “On several occasions, I have had to request meetings through the CEO’s secretary or personal assistant, only to be informed that she is unavailable,” he stated. Although he acknowledged that the CEO had a busy schedule, Abeiku said the situation was making it difficult for him to carry out his responsibilities effectively. ‘I’ll choose Ghana over $100,000 salary in the US’ - Abeiku Santana He noted that the lack of access to the CEO had sometimes delayed official activities, stakeholder engagements and the execution of important assignments. “This situation sometimes causes delays in operations, stakeholder engagements, and the implementation of key assignments,” Aggrey wrote. The GTA Deputy CEO stressed that he was not raising the issue to attack the CEO personally. Rather, he wanted the matter addressed to improve communication and ensure the Authority operated more effectively. “My intention is not to make a personal complaint, but to highlight a communication gap that needs to be addressed in the interest of effective management and institutional efficiency,” he said. Abeiku has therefore called on the Tourism Minister to intervene and help establish measures to improve communication between him and the CEO, particularly when urgent matters require their attention. He also indicated that the intervention should be undertaken with the knowledge of the GTA Board Chairperson. “I therefore respectfully seek your intervention, with the knowledge of the Board Chairperson, to help establish a more effective communication and consultation arrangement between the CEO and my office, especially on urgent official matters,” he stated. Despite the challenges, Abeiku maintained that he remained ready to work with the CEO and other members of the Authority’s management to achieve their shared goals. “I remain committed to working professionally with the CEO and the entire management team to achieve the Ministry’s objectives and strengthen the performance of the Ghana Tourism Authority,” he said.
