Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew has admitted to the struggles of the team but wants Ghanaians to stay calm as the players work hard to turn the tide.
The Black Stars started the year on a tough note getting knocked out at the 2023 African Cup of Nations group states.
Despite the change in technical direction after the tournament, the team has still not found its feet losing a friendly match against Nigeria and drawing with Uganda.
Speaking on the poor performance of the Ghana national team, captain Andre Ayew called for patience as the team works hard to improve on their performance.
“I think we need to stay calm, a lot of things have happened but there’s not much to be said at the moment. I have been in the team for a very long time, so we need to stay calm, learn from what went right and what went wrong,” he told GhOne in an interview.
While apologizing for their failure to win matches, Andre Ayew expressed his confidence in the Black Stars to bounce back to winning ways.
“We need to keep working hard to make our nation proud because it is something very special. We cannot hide behind the fact that the results lately have not been the best and we are sorry for that, but I know it's part of the game.”
He added, “Football is like a cycle; you have moments. We were on top for about 10 to 12 years, but now it’s other people. We need to keep working harder. We have the talent and the players, it's just a matter of time and a little bit of luck for things to switch around.”
The Black Stars have not won a match since November 2023 when they beat Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana's next match will be against Mali in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June 2024.
