The Electoral Commission (EC) has referred an alleged bribery incident, captured in a viral video during the Ejisu by-election, to the Ghana Police Service for criminal investigations.

The video in question showed an individual placing a white envelope on a table in front of EC officials. The EC's investigation revealed that the envelope was purportedly meant for the officials' lunch.

"The man in the video approached the officials' table and inquired if they had eaten," the EC stated in a Tuesday release.

"He then placed the envelope on the table, suggesting they use the contents for their lunch, and subsequently walked away," the EC added.

Following these findings, the EC said it immediately suspended the services of the two temporary election officers involved and engaged in preliminary discussions with the Ghana Police Service to initiate a criminal investigation into the matter.

In light of these events, the EC has called for calm and reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, honesty, and transparency.

Meanwhile, GhanaWeb has verified the identity of the individual who distributed the envelope as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Professor Kingsley Nyarko.

In an interview with the media, the MP, despite failing to confirm the contents of the envelope, maintained that his action was never intended to influence the officials or the electoral process.
