The Information Services Department (ISD) of Ghana visited the Electoral Commission (EC) on April 25, 2024, to foster stronger collaboration.
Led by Acting Director Dr. Winnifred Nafisa Mahama, the ISD delegation met with Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, and her team at the Commission’s headquarters. The purpose of the visit was to enhance the relationship between ISD and key stakeholders and promote a collaborative working environment.
The discussions centred on the ISD’s core mission to encourage public participation and engagement. Dr. Mahama emphasised the department’s ongoing efforts to become a “modern, efficient, and trusted source for government information.”
She also provided insights into the various divisions within ISD and their roles in fulfilling its mandate.
Collaboration opportunities were identified, including research, public education campaigns, media monitoring, and generating public engagement through feedback.
These areas resonated strongly with the Electoral Commission, particularly with Ghana’s general elections approaching in December. Jean Mensa acknowledged the growing challenge of misinformation in the media and emphasised the need for a united front to combat it.
Both parties explored avenues for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and exchanging ideas on policy impact and combating misinformation. The Chairperson warmly welcomed the collaboration, recognising the positive impact this partnership could have on ensuring an informed Ghanaian citizenry.
This visit exemplifies the ISD’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders and empowering public participation in Ghana’s democratic process.
