Police presence at the Koforidua High Court
There was heavy security presence at the Koforidua High Court Wednesday morning during the hearing of the Akropong Chieftaincy dispute.
There were more than 30 armed Police personnel and National Security operatives Policing the Court .
The move foiled anticipated clashes between the feuding chieftaincy factions.
The case has however been adjourned to March 12, 2018.
Meanwhile, there is a pending case of contempt of Court against the Queen, Awo Prah Agyekum for purportedly enstooling a chief while there is Court injunction .
The Okuapemhene Stool has remained vacant three years after the demise of Oseadeeyo Nana Addo Dankwah III, due to a dispute emanating from the Sakyibea Royal family whose turn it is to nominated a heir to the vacant stool.
Two factions have emerged from the Sakyebea Royal Family with each claiming to be the rightful gate to select the next Okuapemhene to succeed the late Oseadeyo Addo Dankwah III, who reigned for 41 years.
Currently, Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo, a 63-year-old retired journalist and businessman, and one Nana Kwadwo Kesse are the two candidates contesting to be enstooled as Okuapemhene.
This has led to several clashes and distruction of properties in Akropong.
History suggest that the process of enstooling a chief whenever the stool is vacant has never been peaceful in the last 100 years.
