The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stressed the urgency of eradicating illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, by any means necessary.
He underscored the duty of today's generation to safeguard the inheritance from their forefathers, urging the populace to engage actively in the battle against galamsey.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining electoral integrity as the country prepares for the 2024 elections, calling for heightened vigilance.
During his speech commemorating his 25th year as the 16th Asantehene, he stated,
"Our primary objective must be to restore our environment from the destructive effects of galamsey.
“We cannot permit our generation to become the architects of the downfall of the invaluable heritage given to us by our forebears, merely to satisfy the greed of a few. We must, at all costs, triumph over this menace," as quoted by citinewsroom.com.
