Former Ghana goalkeeper Richard 'Olele' Kingson believes Wa All Stars shot-stopper Richard Ofori has the potential to become the Black Stars' first choice in the future.

The 23-year-old was handed his debut game ahead of Razak Brimah and Fatau Dauda during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations third-place playoff against Burkina Faso in Gabon. Although Burkina won the game through Alain Traore's stunning late free-kick, Kingson insists the young goalkeeper only needs good advice to become a great player.

“We have great goalkeepers but they need good people around to help them in their direction. During the Afcon in Gabon, I had a call from Richard Ofori when he was selected to be in the post against Burkina Faso in the third-place play-off and I gave him my advice,” Kingson told Asempa FM.

“I was really impressed with his performance after the game although Ghana lost because that was his first competitive game for the country after several call-ups.

“After the match, I said to myself that if this goalkeeper gets good advice from close ones, I believe he will be in the post for the country for a long time. We have seen the likes of Adam Larsen Kwarasey and others in the post for the Black Stars but they didn't get proper advice and direction so their performances were not up to the standard Ghanaians were expecting.

“I'm saying this because Kwarasey was performing very well when I was around the team,” he added.
