Black Princesses coach, Yusif Basigi
Head Coach of Ghana’s U-20 female team (Black Princesses), Yussif Basigi, has indicated that his players will remain focused when they face Kenya in their second leg World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
The Black Princesses head into the second leg tie with a 5-0 advantage and will be hoping to beat the Kenyans at their own backyard to ensure a smooth passage to the next round of qualifiers which is likely to see them facing Cameroon.
The Black Princesses morale heading into the return fixture has also been boosted with the payment of their outstanding $1000 cash bonuses owed them by the ministry of youth of sports but Coach Yussif has warned that the Princesses not to be carried away.
He explained that such results and fulfillment of cash promises ahead of a major qualifying encounter creates an environment for his players to have the sound mind to approach the match.
Coach Yusif Basigi who is expected to travel to Nairobi today after holding his final training session with the Princesses last Tuesday with eighteen players, seven officials and management members, said the target of the team is to deliver on their promise of qualifying.
“It will be difficult to relent on our efforts against Kenya. Kenya is wounded and I am sure they will come at us. They still have their home support which will be very vital so we must be careful and be focused to get the results,” he added.
“Ghana should not be complacent. This is because beating India 5-0 is good but it’s nothing new, so they (Black Princesses) should not get it into their head but forge ahead and make sure they can eliminate our next opponents. If we win that game [against Kenya], we are progressing to the next stage and that is where you face the big girls of the tournament.”
Meanwhile MultiPac Ghana Limited, producers of Perla Natural Mineral Water and 5 Star Energy Drink, has donated products to two female national football teams, the Black Princesses and the Black Maidens.
Multi Pac presented 100 cartons of their products made up of Perla Natural Mineral Water and other products including assorted soft drinks to the teams at their training camp at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
A management member of Multi Pac Ghana Limited, Kaiser Abrahams, said the donation forms part of Multi Pac Ghana Limited’s corporate social responsibility.
