Some of Ghana's leading athletes have expressed their displeasure over the treatment of the tartan tracks at the University of Ghana Stadium during the WAFU B U-17 tournament.

The new blue tracks, installed for the 2023 African Games, are the only certified running tracks in the country.

During the Ghana vs Côte d'Ivoire opening game, images surfaced revealing people sitting on chairs placed on the tracks, without protective covering.

Some of the players also run onto the tracks to celebrate after scoring and the athletes are unhappy with the development.

Joseph Paul Amoah, who clinched gold in the 200m event wrote, "That's our only certified track for Christ's sake."

Ibrahim Fuseini, who placed fourth in the men's 200m final at the African Games, stated, "It's about time we need to stop doing this. This is the only track we have in Ghana now."

Solomon Hammond also added, "This can't be happening on the only certified track we have in Ghana now," ending with a sad face emoji.
