Three suspected armed robbers who posed as military men have been arrested by the Wassa Akropong police command in the Western region.

The three who wore military uniforms for their operations in Wassa Asikuma, a town near Wassa Akropong in the Western North region last Friday October 28, 2017 are alleged to have attacked a group of taxi drivers, tied them and took monies on them.

Residents of the town say they have been subjected to such robberies in the past two months but the several reports to the police on the said attacks amounted to nothing.

It only took the courage of some townsfolk who realized that the suspects are not military personnel and managed to arrest and handed them over to the Wassa Akropong Police.

A court in Tarkwa sitting on the case has adjourned hearing to two weeks starting Monday.

Some of the residents and a victim, Abugri Haruna confirmed to Empire Community News that the suspects took responsibility of the robbery incidents recorded in the area and also threatened to kill residents who facilitated their arrest and subsequent trial when they are left of the hook.

“They say they will be back to kill me and all the others who arrested and handed them over to the police. '"our boss will let us out soon we will kill all of you,'” he narrated.

According to Abugri Haruna, he was nearly killed when the suspects broke into his room and robbed him.

He said it only took a plea in the name of his pregnant wife that the robbers speared his life and that of his wife's.

“I urged them to take anything they want but pleaded with them to spare my life so I can take care of my pregnant wife and the unborn baby,” he stated.

The suspects are said to have also confirmed, upon further interrogation that the military uniforms and handcuffs are supplied to them by their Kumasi-based leader.
