Kwaku Ofori Asiamah - Minister of Transport with other representatives
A delegation made up representatives from agencies under the Ministry of Transport and headed by the Minister for Transport Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has represented Ghana at the Nor Shipping Conference that took place in Oslo, Norway.
Members of the delegation comprised the Chief Director, Twumasi Ankrah-Selby, Deputy Chief Executive of the Ghana Shippers Authority Sylvia Asana Owu, Data Processing Officer of GSA, Justin Daniels, and Principal Marketing and Public Affairs Officer Nana Esi Soderberg, from the GPHA.
The Nor-Shipping 2017 conference was among other things aimed to connect, challenge, provoke and inspire the industry, encouraging silo-breaking development while identifying the new business opportunities arising in a world undergoing major transformative shifts.
Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Ghana’s Transport minister said that the political stability in Ghana makes the country a safe haven for doing business.
He intimated that the two major sea ports Tema and Takoradi are positioned and well prepared to do very good business with the international community.
With the ongoing expansion works at both Tema and Takoradi ports, he said Ghana is positioning itself to welcome the world for business.
He noted that the government is taking rail transport seriously, hence the creation of a whole ministry to cater for rail transport.
The Nigerian Minister for Transport Rotimi Amaechi warmly invited the maritime world to come and take advantage of the huge population in his country which is the largest market on the continent.
Other participants acknowledged the overcapacity of vessels by suppliers and its attendant problems like lower fright rate and called for level playing field with participants and players in the maritime industry
