Hopeson Adorye, a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has raised concerns regarding what he terms the influence of monetary incentives in the recent Ejisu by-election.

Addressing the press following the announcement of the results by the Electoral Commission (EC), Adorye, who served as a polling officer for independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, stated, "We've accepted the result as declared by the EC. What they have is a reflection of what we have, so we accept it."

However, he did not shy away from condemning what he perceived as the undue influence of financial inducements in the electoral process.

He particularly targeted his former party, accusing them of flooding the constituency with money in what he described as a blatant attempt at inducement.

"I will describe this election as 'moneycracy' or an election of inducement. I mean, how? Look at the money that they've sent to this particular constituency.

...the money that they have shared, I can tell you, it is equal to the money that the IMF has given to us. Why? This small constituency like this? It is too much.

"But we're waiting for them in December; they should come and share the same money again," myjoyonline.com quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, with votes from all polling stations counted and collated, the NPP candidate Kwabena Boateng has been declared the Member of Parliament-elect.

Results from all 204 polling stations showed that lawyer Kwabena Boateng received 27,782 votes from the total valid votes cast, representing 55.8%.

Ing. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the independent parliamentary candidate, secured 21,543 votes (43.3%).

The other candidates in the by-election, Esther Osei of the CPP, Beatrice Boakye of the LPG, and independents Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph, collectively accounted for less than 1% of the votes.

The outcome means the NPP has retained a seat it held after winning it through the late John Kumah in 2020.
