The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Tuesday 26th March, 2024, embarked on a working tour to inspect the TDC Community 26 Affordable Housing project, accompanied by officials from the ministry.
The visit took place on Tuesday, 26th March 2024, where they were warmly received by the Managing Director, Madam Alice Abena Ofori Atta, and other key members of the TDC management.
During the visit, the Head of Development, Mr. Robert Ayitey, provided a comprehensive overview of the project, highlighting that a total of 1072 units have been constructed across Phases 1, 2, and 3, with 832 units for Phase 4 still in progress. The General Manager Operations, Mr. Samuel Asante, further revealed that the project's funding was sourced internally by the TDC.
Mr. Asante emphasized the project's primary objective of providing affordable accommodation for public sector workers, particularly nurses and teachers. The Minister and his delegation expressed appreciation for the progress made in completing the initial three phases of the housing enclave, considering the nation's housing deficit of 1.8 million.
Acknowledging TDC's expertise as a master developer in the real estate sector, the Minister pledged to ensure the company's inclusion in the Pokuase Housing Projects. He also stressed the importance of implementing mechanisms to prevent the exploitation of affordable housing units through excessively high rental prices.
The TDC Community 26 Affordable Housing project boasts of 71 fully completed blocks, offering essential amenities such as a fenced and gated estate, asphalt roads, and underground drainage systems. Each block features standby water tanks, with the necessary infrastructure for water and electricity already in place.
The housing units at the enclave are diversified, encompassing 64 studios apartments, 128 one-bedroom ordinary units, 256 one-bedroom special units, and 624 two-bedroom units. With the commitment of both the Ministry of Works and Housing and the TDC, the affordable housing project serves as a significant step towards alleviating the country's housing challenges and providing sustainable living solutions for its citizens.
