Persons living with disabilities, PWDs in the Northern Region have lauded the Legal Resources Center and Star-Ghana for their intervention toward their impeccable participation in the 2016 general elections which saw them go through the whole voting process without skirmishes.
This applauds came during a one day training workshop held in Tamale on the Electoral Justice System in Ghana and also to discuss the successes and the challenges of the 2016 general elections.
Speaking during the event, the Northern Regional Chairman for the people living with disability, Mr. Mohammed Seidu Chantimah revealed how important the reform that talk about giving priority to the vulnerable persons like the pregnant women and Persons with disabilities at the registration centers and polling stations helped he and his colleagues during the elections.
He explained that over the years people living with disability have to go through a lot of struggles at registration centers and polling stations before they receive attention, but emphasized the reform which through Legal Resource Center and Star-Ghana was explained to the understanding of the public.
Mr. Mohammed Seidu has therefore suggested that these interventions through Legal Resource Center with support from Star-Ghana should be continued to ensure a safer and better treatment towards persons living with disability.
In a related development, the spokesperson to the chief of Tamale, Sabaa Naa Abass Salifu recalled how the previous elections saw people taking the law into their own hands and engaging in electoral violence in the Tamale township and its environs but has said the 2016 saw a new development where aggrieved persons opt for going to the law court instead of causing disorder.
The one day training program brought together political party leaders in the region, civil society groups, personnel from the various security services, the electoral commission, the media and other stakeholders in Ghanaian elections with support from Star-Ghana and its partner, the Legal Resource Center.
