'I wish I had spoken with Stephen Appiah before joining Fenerbahçe' - Peprah Oppong
Ghanaian defender Kojo Peprah Oppong has revealed that he did not speak to former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah before completing his move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.
Oppong, who impressed during his time at Nice and at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, was asked whether he had contacted Appiah before joining the club, given the former midfielder’s legendary status at Fenerbahçe.
Speaking with Fenerbahçe club’s media, the 21 year old admitted that he would have loved to speak with Appiah but does not have direct contact with the Ghanaian football icon.
“No, I wish I did, but I don't have direct contact with him. I met him at the World Cup, but obviously at that time we didn't know anything like this would happen,”he said.

Appiah remains one of the most celebrated Ghanaian players in Fenerbahçe’s history, having represented the Turkish club between 2005 and 2008.
Oppong said he holds the former Black Stars captain in high regard and described him as a Ghanaian legend.
“He’s a really great legend from Ghana, so yeah, I couldn't speak with him," he noted.
The young defender also acknowledged Appiah’s strong connection with Fenerbahçe and expressed his admiration for the legacy he left at the club.
“I wish I had direct contact with Appiah. He's a great legend of Ghana," he added.
