Chairman Arkutu declares bid for Greater Accra NDC Regional Secretary
Former Ayawaso Central Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ebenezer Arkutu, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the party.
Arkutu, who announced his ambition in a declaration of intent ahead of the NDC’s upcoming constituency and regional executive elections, says his decision is driven by years of experience in grassroots organisation and mobilisation, as well as a desire to strengthen the relationship between the party’s leadership and its rank and file across the Greater Accra Region.
In his declaration, Arkutu said the impending constituency and regional elections should go beyond choosing individuals to occupy party positions and focus instead on electing leaders with the capacity and experience to respond effectively to the concerns of grassroots members.
He identified access to leadership, effective representation and opportunities for all as three critical issues that must receive greater attention within the party.
According to him, his years of organising and mobilising support for the NDC, coupled with his experience as a former constituency chairman, have provided him with a deeper understanding of grassroots politics and the challenges confronting party members at the constituency level.
“Along the way, as a former Constituency Chairman of Ayawaso Central in the Greater Accra Region, I have learned what drives results and what doesn’t and how to adapt quickly,” he stated.
He said he now wants to bring that experience to bear at the regional level and work for the benefit of all 34 constituencies in the Greater Accra Region.
“Now I am looking forward to bring that experience to the benefit of the Region — the 34 Constituencies — which is exactly why this opportunity to serve in the capacity of a Regional Secretary stood out for me,” Arkutu said.
“I remain convinced and committed that the NDC members/Footsoldiers are key stakeholders within their own Government with vested individual and collective interests that must be respected, protected and fulfilled — just like any Ghanaian,” he stated.
Banking on experience
Presenting himself as an experienced grassroots organiser, Arkutu said his previous leadership role in Ayawaso Central and years of political mobilisation have prepared him for the responsibilities of Regional Secretary.
He said the position requires more than administrative competence, arguing that whoever occupies the office must understand constituency dynamics, grassroots mobilisation and the importance of maintaining effective communication between the various structures of the party.
“I have the experience and capacity to put structures in place to deliver on these, on the back of your support — so that together we can build the NDC we want together,” he told party members.
