'I didn't say I would kill people; I meant they could meet God in a vision' – NPP's Adenta Kumi
New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser aspirant Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as ‘Adenta Kumi’, has rejected claims that his controversial “meet God” comment was a threat to kill people who attempt to interfere with ballot boxes during elections.
According to him, his remark was not intended to suggest that anyone would be killed, insisting that “meeting God” could occur through a vision.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Situation Room on September 3, 2026, Kumi was repeatedly pressed to explain his earlier statement that persons who attempted to carry ballot boxes on Election Day would “meet God.”
“I didn’t say I would kill people. They could meet God in a vision,” he explained.
Kumi dismissed the interpretation that his comments amounted to a threat of electoral violence, arguing that the statement had been taken out of context.

He maintained that his comments were made in the context of protecting ballot boxes, which he described as a critical symbol of Ghana’s democracy.
He also rejected suggestions that, if elected as NPP National Youth Organiser, he would encourage the formation of political thugs or vigilante groups to protect ballot boxes.
“I don’t believe in thugs. I’ve never worked with any thug. I don’t believe in unlawful activities,” he said.
Kumi further argued that there were already security personnel assigned to polling stations to protect the electoral process, stressing that the responsibility of political actors was to ensure that votes were protected.
“The symbol of our democracy lies in the votes that we are voting,” he indicated.
