'Who is manipulating who?' – MzGee questions CSSPS placement system
Media personality MzGee has questioned the recurring challenges associated with Ghana’s Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), following a fresh wave of complaints from parents and Junior High School graduates over the 2026/2027 Senior High School placement exercise.
“So, why does this school placement ‘thing’ seem to be an annual chaos! Ah!!! Are people manipulating the system or the system is manipulating people?” she wrote in a Facebook post reacting to reports of difficulties confronting parents and candidates.
Her comments come as parents and prospective SHS students continue to visit the placement resolution centre at GNAT Hall in Accra to seek answers to a range of problems following the release of the 2026/2027 placement results.
The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service released the placement results on September 4, 2026, but the exercise has since been accompanied by complaints over candidates who have not been placed, unexpected school assignments and other discrepancies.
Among the reported concerns are cases in which candidates have allegedly been assigned to schools they did not select, while others have questioned placements that appear inconsistent with their circumstances or expectations.
One particularly striking case involved a parent who reported that his son, who does not have a hearing impairment, had been placed at Mampong Akwapim School for the Deaf. The case has fuelled questions among affected families about how candidate information is processed and verified before final placements are issued.
Other parents have also raised concerns about candidates being placed in schools with programmes different from those they expected, as well as difficulties involving day and boarding placements.
At GNAT Hall, the concerns have translated into long queues and frustration, with parents and candidates seeking clarification and assistance from officials. The Ghana News Agency reported on Friday, September 11, that some parents and guardians had expressed frustration over the placement process and travelled to the designated resolution centre to have their concerns addressed.
The CSSPS is intended to match candidates with senior high, technical and vocational institutions based on factors including academic performance, selected programmes and available vacancies.
The official CSSPS platform also provides a system through which candidates can check their placements and, in cases where they are not automatically placed, use the self-placement option to select schools with available vacancies.
However, the latest complaints have renewed an old question about whether the system is sufficiently equipped to prevent or quickly correct obvious discrepancies before they become a source of anxiety for families.
For parents, the stakes are particularly high. Placement determines where a child will spend the next three years of secondary education, making errors or unexplained outcomes more than a mere administrative inconvenience.
