Dangote IPO will show Africa can industrialise at global scale – Fatima Dangote
The planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the Dangote Group is being described as more than just a major share sale, with the company saying it could showcase Africa’s ability to build and manage large-scale industrial projects.
Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director of Commercial Operations for Oil and Gas, Fertiliser and WAEP, said the IPO presents an opportunity for both African and international investors to participate in what she described as an important African industrial story.
According to her, the significance of the IPO goes beyond investors buying shares in the company.
“Yes, it's good that there's one of the biggest IPOs about to happen within the continent, but for me, it is the participation of both Africans and people outside of Africa in this story that Dangote Group is trying to sell,” she told Bloomberg.

She explained that the IPO would help communicate a broader message about Africa’s growing industrial capacity and its ability to compete on the global stage.
“So we're selling a story that Africa is able to industrialise at scale, not just at scale, but at a global scale,” Fatima Dangote said.
She added that the development demonstrates that African businesses can develop major ideas, secure financing and successfully manage mega projects to global standards.
“It's telling a story that Africa is able to conceive an idea, finance it and manage a mega project at a global level,” she noted.
Fatima Dangote stated that the IPO should not be viewed simply as an opportunity to buy shares in the Dangote Group.
“So it's not just IPO selling shares. It's showing the world that Africa has entered into a new phase of industrialisation,” she said.
Her comments come as anticipation builds around the planned Dangote Group IPO, which is expected to attract interest from investors within and outside Africa.
The listing could potentially deepen African participation in major businesses while also giving international investors an opportunity to take part in one of the continent’s major industrial ventures.
