'People kept collapsing' - Blakk Rasta speaks on Shatta Wale's Nkrumahfest performance
Broadcaster Blakk Rasta has described Shatta Wale’s performance at the 2026 Nkrumahfest as one so electrifying that several fans collapsed in the packed crowd.
Speaking on his show, Blakk Rasta said anticipation for Shatta Wale’s performance was unmatched, as it marked the dancehall artiste’s first appearance at the event in the Nkroful area, where he shared the headline bill with Kofi Kinaata and Empress Gifty.
According to him, excitement reached fever pitch after Empress Gifty wrapped up her set and Shatta Wale made his entrance, having flown into Cape Coast on businessman RNAQ’s private jet before heading to his hotel ahead of the performance.
“The whole place was electrified like never before. He had arrived in a private jet… and when it was time for Shatta Wale to come on stage, the anticipation was so high. It was the first time Shatta Wale was playing in the region, in fact the Nkrofo area,” he said.
Blakk Rasta recounted that Shatta Wale delivered hit after hit despite a downpour, even taking off his shirt and performing in the rain as thousands of fans sang along.
However, he said the combination of the massive crowd, excitement and weather resulted in several participants fainting.
“People fell and collapsed, my brother, my sister, and the police carried them to safety. The police did a great job. Shatta was on stage doing his thing. People kept collapsing and then the fire service was called upon to come and spray more water on the people because it looked like the rain water was not enough to cool them down,” he stated.
He praised the Ghana National Fire Service, police officers and ambulance personnel for their swift response, noting that emergency teams were on standby throughout the event to ensure the safety of patrons.
Blakk Rasta added that although the crowd was tightly packed “like sardine cans,” the emergency services managed the situation effectively, describing the spraying of cool water by the Fire Service as an unusual but successful measure that allowed fans to remain at the concert and continue enjoying Shatta Wale’s performance.
