‘Charismatic churches have bred nonsense behaviour’ – Great Ampong blasts Obinim

Gospel musician Great Ampong has criticised Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, for discussing his marital disputes in church openly. Speaking to Ola Michael on Neat FM on October 14, 2026, Ampong expressed concern about the decision by the controversial preacher to discuss details of his marital dispute with his church members. His comments came a day after Bishop Obinim read portions of court documents to his congregation, disclosing the compensation his estranged wife, Florence, is seeking for the period they lived together as a legally married couple. Reacting to the development, Great Ampong questioned whether leaders of orthodox churches such as Roman Catholic, SDA, among others, would engage in such public discussions about their private marital affairs during church services. The gospel musician argued that the conduct of some religious leaders in recent years raises concerns about the direction of Christianity in Ghana, particularly with the growth of Charismatic churches. According to him, the rise of Charismatic churches has contributed to what he described as unacceptable behaviour among some pastors who claim to be men of God. “We grew up attending orthodox churches such as the Methodist, Presbyterian, SDA, Anglican and Roman Catholic churches. Did you ever see these issues happening? Can a Roman Catholic priest or an SDA pastor do this kind of thing? It is not possible. The rise of Charismatic churches has bred some of these nonsensical behaviours among so-called men of God,” Great Ampong said. He claimed that three pastors in Ghana are currently bringing the Christian faith into disrepute through their actions. “There are three pastors in Ghana who are dragging Christianity through the mud. They have made the youth prefer going to betting houses rather than going to church,” he stated. Great Ampong also questioned the credibility of pastors who allegedly admit that miracles they previously presented to their congregations are staged. He questioned why any reasonable person would remain in a church after discovering that a pastor had allegedly misled members about miracles for years. “All the miracles you performed, you have now come out yourself to say they were ‘settings’. After your members initially believed you, you are now saying the miracles were staged. Would any rational human being remain in such a church?” he asked. @neat100.9fmofficial The rise of charismatic churches seems to have bred some of these disturbing behaviours among so-called men of God.
