‘Our son is untouchable’ - Afenyo-Markin drops cryptic message after suit thrown out
Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has shared a message of solidarity he received from members of the Anlo community in Effutu, saying they regard him as one of their own and are ready to stand by him through difficult times.
Speaking during a visit by some members of the Anlo community, Afenyo-Markin explained the meaning behind a traditional song used to welcome him, which he said conveyed a message of loyalty, strength and protection.

According to him, the song drew on folklore about an animal called “Nyongnoli” that tells other animals it has overpowered a tiger.
He explained that the other animals found the claim difficult to believe because the tiger was regarded as a powerful figure that could not easily be defeated.
“You can't overpower a king. It's not possible. The king is always protected,” he recounted.
Afenyo-Markin said the folklore was used to communicate the community's belief in him and their determination to support him.
“The simple message my people are telling all others through the song is that our son is not someone you can touch. He is our home. He's our leader,” he said.
He added that the song was also intended to encourage him to remain firm in the face of challenges associated with his work.
“It was a way of also telling me that be firm, be strong. The work is not easy,” he stated.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the community's support would remain unwavering even if he encountered difficulties.
“I will not believe anybody who comes and says that your man is down. Even if you are down, we are with you,” he added.
His account highlights how traditional folklore and cultural expressions can be used to communicate solidarity, loyalty and support for community leaders.
