Columbus, Ohio A year ago, Ghanaians in Columbus, Ohio made a huge noise with their first ever Kente Dance in conjunction with Agoo magazine. The first anniversary of the Kente Dance recently took place with a special guest appearance by movie heavyweight; Van Vicker. The event organized by Akwaaba Promotions which included;Lydia Yeboah (Biggest Ghanaweb fan in Ohio), Benard Opoku, Richard Okyere, Sam Afful, Alex Amoafo and Nana Ama. Mr. Kwabena Yeboah designated as Van's body guard. Among the special guests included; Nana Odeneho, Nana Gyamfi, Professor Padmore, Yacob Amare and others. Akwaaba Promotions also took the opportunity to make award presentations on behalf of the Ghanaian community in Ohio to movie superstar; Van Vicker and Charles Nimmo Ntiamoah-Mensah aka Mr. CNN, Media Personality of Ghanaweb. Van Vicker was presented with The Best Ghanaian Actor Award by Professor Padmore. Mr. CNN was also presented with; The Best Media Personality of the Year Award by; Nananom; Nana Odeneho and Nana Gyamfi. Both award receipients offered their sincere gratitudes to the Ghanaian community in Ohio for the recognition. Van Vicker mentioned that he had travelled around the country since his arrival and that evening was the best time he has had so far. He said he really felt appreciated by their support. There were also various competitions which took place and they included; The Best Kaba style, The Best Hairdo and Best Men's Cloth (Based on design and best way worn) The Best Kaba style finalists included; Victorine Arvo, Abigail Fosu, Daphane Spencer, Yvonne Spencer and Gifty Mensah. The winner was; Yvonne Spencer and chosen by Van Vicker. The Best Hairdo finalists included; Agartha Fosu, Janet Boakye and Victoria Tawiah. The winner was; Janet Boakye and chosen by Yacob Amare The Best Men's Cloth finalists included; K Amoateng, Kevin Mark Bruce and Peter Kuffour. The winner was; Peter Kuffour and chosen by Nananom. The spotlight on the first anniversary of Ohio Kente Dance was brought courtesy of Akwaaba Promotions and Mr. & Mrs Benard Opoku.
