Old "Skuulers" having fun
The Euro Ghana Heritage and Reunion Festival which occurred in collaboration
with OBE TV was the first of its kind held recently at the Excel Center. It
was in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Ghana's Independence, and
also as an instrument to unify and celebrate the unique heritage that the
Ghanaian Diaspora has showcased.
Dubbed The Euro "Old Skuul" Reunion, it is a great concept and an
interesting platform where old students gather and reminisce about the good
old days. The difference between this particular event and various meetings
pertaining to one's alma mater is that a platform is given to
representatives of a particular school and they sing their school's national
anthem or patriotic songs.
There are several old students associations in London and this event was a
platform to meet all the associations and learn certain things other
students never knew or experienced many years ago and are being revisited.
Many "Old Skuul" representatives gathered and really learned many stories as
well as some of the funniest moments going back to the 1960s. There were
many old "Skuul" representatives of Achimota, Adisadel, St. Augustines,
Wesley Girls (Wey Gey Hey), Mfantsipim, Mfantsiman, Accra Academy, Prempeh,
Holy Child University of Ghana (Vandals), A St. Rose's, Osei Kyeretwie,
Opoku Ware, and many others.
There was various performances by Ofori Amponsah, Kwabena Kwabena,
Castro Yaw "NKOMODE" Donkor, Comedian, and a brief fashion show.
The event was co-hosted by award-winning and renowned MCs, always imitated
and never duplicated. Leading the trio was legendary KKD and the future of
broadcast journalism, Bola Ray and one of the finest Ghanaian female TV
personalities in London of OBE TV, Ama Abebrese.
There was a platform given to various reps to sing their anthems.
The Vandals of the University of Ghana shook attendees with their profanity
anthem. Many attendees were wondering why such a name for a reputated
group.

"VANDAL" is an acronym that describes the attributes of past, present and
future students and residents of Commonwealth Hall, University of Ghana.
Vandalism is a culture with a philosophy; it is a way of life that promotes
respect for all without any prejudice. Vandalism is the highest form of
religion where people love their neighbours more than they love themselves.
Vandalism as a culture preaches fairness, equality, freedom and above all
justice - regardless of ethnicity, religion, political ideology, world view
and national or tribal origin. The term VANDAL as used by present and past
students of Commonwealth Hall and associates to describe themselves is an
acronym. The acronym VANDAL is a combined summation of the attributes of
Vandals and stands for the following: Vivacious, Affable, Neighbourly,
Devoted/Dedicated, Altruistic and Loyal."
The group is reputable for their use in profanity as part of a school
anthem. While some women may find it offensive, All in the name of just
having fun and part of the school life. Nothing personal and just strictly a
long tradition which had existed for many years. The group has produced
many prominent Ghanaians. Many old students really felt like they were back
in school and enjoying the priceless school life. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
VANDALS.
The organizers would be sending invitations to all Old Students Associations
in the UK and Europe to participate in next year's event. Revisiting and
sharing stories of old school life is something worth learning and
enjoyable.
Massive respect to Nana Bonnie, Marcus, OBE TV and their team for organizing
and bringing old students together to share many years of old school life.
