Rare footage shows how fire started at Rockstone's food business

A rare video has surfaced showing how the infamous fire broke out at legendary Hiplife musician Reggie Rockstone’s food business, Rockz Waakye, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre about a year ago. The incident occurred on August 4, 2025, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, located opposite Afrikiko in the heart of Accra, where the veteran musician operated his food business. In the rare footage, a female kitchen staff member is seen lying down in the restaurant’s kitchen when another woman walks in and informs her that the restaurant is running out of fried plantain and that she needs to fry more. The woman then gets up, walks to the stove and places plantain in a frying pan. However, instead of staying by the stove to monitor the food, she returns to where she had been sleeping and falls asleep while the plantain continues frying. Minutes later, the plantain is ready to be turned, but the woman remains asleep. As the food continues to cook, the oil in the frying pan begins to overheat and eventually catches fire. The kitchen staff member eventually wakes up and, upon realising the extent of the fire, rushes out of the kitchen to seek help. Two young men are subsequently seen rushing into the kitchen with fire extinguishers in an attempt to put out the flames. However, their efforts prove unsuccessful as the fire spreads, forcing them to contact the Ghana National Fire Service for assistance. The fire subsequently caused significant damage to the premises and Rockz Waakye business. Following the incident, Reggie Rockstone took to Instagram to express his appreciation to members of the public for the support and concern they showed him after news of the fire emerged. Despite the extent of the damage, the Hiplife pioneer expressed gratitude that no lives were lost and no one was injured, stressing that the incident only resulted in the destruction of property. He also commended personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service for their response to the incident, saying the officers did their best to contain the situation and salvage what they could despite criticism from some sections of the public. The newly surfaced footage now provides a rare look at the moments leading up to the fire and how a seemingly routine task of frying plantain escalated into a major blaze.
