'How movie lighting nearly damaged my eyes' - Agya Koo narrates

Veteran Kumawood actor Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has recalled a painful experience during which the lighting used during movie productions nearly damaged his eyes. According to the actor, years of working under intense movie lights began taking a toll on his vision, causing him to experience blurred sight. Speaking in an interview on Lawson TV on August 23, 2026, Agya Koo said his vision started deteriorating at a point in his career after he had worked on several movie projects. “I acted in movies till it got to a point where I see things blurry. My vision was deteriorating because of the lighting we used to film,” he disclosed. The veteran actor mentioned that the situation became worrying enough for him to seek medical attention to determine whether he had developed an eye condition. “I went to the hospital and I was asked to read some things. After reading, the doctor told me that nothing was wrong with my eyes. I was advised to be careful of the lighting we use to work,” he recounted. Agya Koo also revealed that while he was living in Accra, he was receiving about GH¢4,000 from his movie work. He, however, clarified that the amount was not a fixed fee he charged Miracle Films for his roles. “When I was staying in Accra, I was being paid GH¢4,000. I didn’t get that money from Miracle Films and I wasn’t even charging them,” he explained. 'I didn't know it was Kwadwo's project' – Agya Koo on LilWin's new movie He continued, “All the movies I acted in, I didn’t charge Miracle Films, so when we were done, he would just give me the amount he had.” Agya Koo disclosed that he featured in about seven or eight movies during the period and worked on them almost continuously. The actor stated that travelling from Accra for the productions became stressful, prompting him to ask for a money advance he was expected to receive so he could purchase a small car. “There were some seven to eight movies I was featured in and I worked back to back. I had to tell him that because I was coming from Accra, I was getting stressed, so the money he was supposed to pay, he should lend me so that I could use it to get a small car to use,” he recounted. According to Agya Koo, they eventually bought a car for approximately GH¢4,500, which he used to ease the stress of travelling to movie locations. “We got the car for around GH¢4,500 and I started using it to movie locations,” he shared. The veteran actor also addressed claims that he was earning as much as GH¢10,000, GH¢20,000 or GH¢50,000 for his movie roles during his active years. He questioned which producer would have been paying him such amounts at the time. “I heard some people saying I used to take GH¢10,000, GH¢20,000 and GH¢50,000, but which producer was giving me that amount?” Agya Koo asked.
