‘Losing my mum brought me closer to people who love me’ – Ahuofe Patri opens up on grief

Ghanaian actress Priscilla Opoku Agyeman, popularly known as Ahuofe Patri, has opened up about the loss of her mother and how the difficult experience brought her closer to the people who love and support her. According to the actress, the overwhelming support she received from friends and family helped her navigate the difficult period from her mother’s illness through to her passing and burial. Speaking in an interview with Nikki Samonas on Joy Prime on August 24, 2026, Ahuofe Patri mentioned that she was deeply affected by her mother's death but was grateful that she did not have to go through the difficult period alone. “Losing my mum actually got me closer to the people who love me. I had a lot of love from friends, family and my family did so well,” she said. The actress noted that her loved ones played a significant role in helping her cope with the loss, particularly because she had always been accustomed to handling things on her own. “I don’t know how I would have been able to handle it because it has always been only me,” she stated. She revealed that her friends remained by her side throughout her mother's illness, death and burial, providing her with the emotional support she needed. Even though I was hurting, everything went smoothly,” she shared. Reflecting on her healing journey, the actress acknowledged the role her friends played but stressed that grieving and healing also require personal effort. “When it comes to healing, your friends can do their best, but most of it is also on you,” she said. Ahuofe Patri disclosed that she has gradually come to understand that time helps people adjust to the reality of losing someone they love. “Time heals everything and I’ve come to understand that with time, you will get used to the fact that she’s no longer around,” she said. She added that she now finds some comfort in the belief that her late mother is still watching over her. “You will know that she’s watching over you.
