‘People paid me to write love letters to their girlfriends’ - KiDi recounts
Ghanaian singer Dennis Nana Dwamena, popularly known as KiDi, has revealed that long before becoming a household name in music, he made money in senior high school by writing and decorating love letters for classmates hoping to impress their girlfriends.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, the ‘Lomo Lomo’ hitmaker said before adopting the stage name KiDi, he performed under the name “Eduardo.”
When asked why he chose the Spanish-inspired name, KiDi explained that the story dates back to his days at Accra Academy.

“I went to Accra Academy Boys School. We used to write letters to our girls, and I had a special talent where people would pay money, and I’d help them write letters to their loved ones,” he recalled.
According to the singer, his service went beyond simply writing romantic messages.
He said he would carefully decorate each letter to make it stand out and leave a lasting impression on the recipient.
“It wasn’t just about writing a letter. I’d help you design the letter. When the girl receives the letter, she’ll know the effort that was put into this,” he said.
KiDi explained that he would paint flowers and other designs on the postcards to make them look more appealing.
“You paint stuff on them. You make it more than just a white postcard. You design the flowers and put them on there for the girl to feel special,” he added.
When Kafui Dey jokingly asked whether he also sprayed perfume on the letters, KiDi laughed off the suggestion, saying they could not afford such luxuries at the time.
“No, no, no. Chale, that time we didn’t have perfume. If you had perfume, you wouldn’t even bring it to school,” he joked.
