LIVESTREAMED: Govt announces months-long traffic disruption over Kaneshie-Mallam drain works

The government is holding a media briefing on major drain works on the Kaneshie-Mallam Highway on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The briefing, which will be led by the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project, under the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, was announced by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communication and Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Kwakye Ofosu stated that drainage works on the highway are expected to affect traffic on it for months.
He added that the works form part of efforts to deal with the perennial flooding of the nation’s capital, Accra.
“There will be an important media briefing today at 11am by a team from GARID on major drain works on the Kaneshie-Mallam Highway which will require significant traffic diversions lasting several months.
“The works form part of the broader flood prevention and mitigation programme launched by the government. Extensive public education will follow the briefing,” he added.
