Asante Kotoko emerge as only club to fully meet GFA licensing requirements

Asante Kotoko have emerged as the only club to fully meet the Ghana Football Association’s club licensing regulations for the upcoming season.
Chairman of the GFA Club Licensing Committee, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, disclosed that the Kumasi-based club was the only applicant approved without sanctions after the licensing review.
According to his interview on Asempa FM, clubs are assessed under three possible outcomes: rejection, approval with sanctions, or outright approval.
“This year, only one club was approved without any sanctions,” he said.
He explained that the development reflects an improvement in compliance among clubs, noting that the GFA’s approach has focused on helping clubs understand and meet the licensing requirements rather than relying solely on punitive measures.
Dr. Baah-Nuakoh singled out Asante Kotoko as an example of effective administrative continuity, particularly following changes to the club’s leadership.
He praised the decision to retain the club’s administration manager, Richard Akutu, saying his institutional knowledge helped the new board navigate the licensing process and complete the necessary documentation.

“The guy with the institutional memory,” Dr. Baah-Nuakoh said, highlighting the importance of experienced administrators in ensuring compliance.
However, he revealed that the committee has also identified concerns involving documents submitted by some clubs, including financial statements and tax clearance certificates.
He stressed that while the Club Licensing Committee can assess whether clubs have submitted the required documentation, suspected fraudulent documents are referred to the appropriate disciplinary or ethics bodies for further action.
“If we feel it is fraudulent, we refer it to the disciplinary committee,” he explained.
