Ghanaian musician Joey B has revealed that rapper Sarkodie played a pivotal role in convincing him to release his hit single U x Me, describing it as the comeback record he had been waiting for.
Speaking on the Sincerely Accra podcast, Joey B recounted that Sarkodie had shown little excitement about some of the songs he previously shared with him, often responding with a simple “fire.” However, everything changed when he sent U x Me.
“I think whatever I sent him, he wasn’t really reacting to it, or he would just say ‘fire’. But when I sent him U x Me, he’s like, ‘What the hell? … This is the one. This is your comeback. This is what we’re talking about,” Joey B recalled.

According to the musician, Sarkodie was travelling at the time and even played the song for a Jamaican friend, whose enthusiastic reaction further convinced him that he had created something special.
“She was just going crazy. I’m like okay, I think I need to be serious about it because that guy also, Sarkodie has a very good ear,” he said.
Joey B explained that he also sought feedback from his uncle, renowned musician and producer Kwame Yeboah, who acknowledged the song’s potential but challenged him to improve it before releasing it.
Although he had already secured a verse from Sarkodie for the record, Joey B said his uncle’s comments pushed him back into the studio, where he worked with music producer Nii Quaye and a saxophonist to further refine the track.
“I just started calling Nii Quaye; he also hears it like, ‘Yo, this is a monster.’ Then I called for a saxophonist; he started doing his thing. The song was fleshing out,” he said.
Joey B admitted he never sent the revised version back to Kwame Yeboah before releasing it.
Instead, his uncle only heard the finished product after it had become a major success, later telling him that his criticism had ultimately helped make the song better.
