I wrote ‘Mmobrowa’, not Kofi B – Ofori Amponsah reveals

Ghanaian highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has addressed the long-standing misunderstanding surrounding his hit song ‘Mmobrowa’, which has often been associated with the late musician Kofi B. Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on September 17, 2026, Ofori Amponsah said he was the producer of the album and was present in the studio during the recording of the song. He insisted that contrary to what many people believe, Kofi B did not write ‘Mmobrowa’. "It’s not his song, but he’s a performer on the song,” he said. Ofori Amponsah disclosed that he regrets giving some of his songs to other musicians, stating that such collaborations can sometimes create confusion over song ownership and royalties. “I regret giving my song to a musician because when you put a musician on your song, automatically, it becomes his. But under copyright law, I have to be getting the royalty," he added. Ofori Amponsah explained that performers are entitled to a percentage of royalties based on the agreement between the owner of a song and the performer, but claimed that such arrangements are often not properly implemented in the Ghanaian music industry. “As a performer, he is also entitled to some percentage and that’s the agreement between you, the owner and the performer. These things were not done,” he added. Touching specifically on ‘Mmobrowa’, he said the disagreement started after Kofi B also claimed authorship of the song. “When we did ‘Mmobrowa’, it was just a bit of misunderstanding. Kofi B said he wrote the song and I said I wrote the song. So, there was this confusion,” he stated. ‘I should've invested more in my career’ – Ofori Amponsah on supporting other musicians Ofori Amponsah disclosed that he tried to prevent the disagreement from damaging their relationship, reminding Kofi B that their musical differences should not turn them against each other. “I told him that we’re brothers and music can divide us, but we don’t have to be divided. He has his talent and I have my talent. I wrote the song and not Kofi B. I’m saying this for the first time and people thought it was Kofi B’s song,” he shared. The highlife musician further claimed that he produced the entire ‘Mmobrowa’ album and was directly involved in its recording process. “I was the producer of the whole album and I was also in the studio while the song was being recorded. All the songs on Mmobrowa, Kofi B never wrote one song on it,” he said. Ofori Amponsah also revealed that before working on ‘Mmobrowa’, he had produced Kofi B’s ‘Taxi Driver’ album, claiming that Kofi B did not independently write any of the songs he recorded with him, although he sometimes contributed lyrics. “Before that, I produced one album for him, Taxi Driver. Every song he did with me, he doesn’t even have one song. "Sometimes, he contributes to the lyrics, but in creating the song, no. Unless you’re very close to the clique, you will never know,” he noted. According to Ofori Amponsah, the main source of their disagreement was Kofi B’s failure to publicly acknowledge him as the writer of ‘Mmobrowa’. “He never told anyone I was the one who wrote Mmobrowa.
