‘Nothing incriminating found at Baffour Awuah’s office’ - Annoh-Dompreh

Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has dismissed reports that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) found incriminating items at the office of Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, during a search. He made this known while addressing the media at the premises of EOCO following the detention of Baffour Awuah in connection with an ongoing investigation. Detention, Office Search, CCTV Seizure: Details of Manhyia South MP’s EOCO ordeal “If anybody is putting out the narrative that something incriminating was found at his office, it's never the case. It's not true, and you have to discard that with the contempt it deserves,” he said. Annoh-Dompreh said he was alarmed by the development, particularly because Baffour Awuah, a sitting MP, was detained overnight over a matter he said had not been proven, describing the scenario as being the first in the country’s history. “I am alarmed at the turn of events. We never expected this to happen… this is the first time in the history of this country that a Member of Parliament will be detained overnight over a matter that has not been proven,” he expressed his concern. The Minority Chief Whip went on to accuse the government of using excessive state powers against members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including MPs and lawyers associated with the party. “We are surprised, and clearly you can see the use of excessive state powers, and we will have to appease the president. The bitterness he is putting amongst Ghanaians is becoming excessive. “I think for the past six months, it's been continuous and repeated hunting and coming after our party rank and file, and to some extent, lawyers in our party, Members of Parliament,” he asserted. Annoh-Dompreh said the development had caused concern within the Minority and warned that the situation should not continue. Manhyia South MP granted GH¢50 million bail by EOCO “This is just too much. Everybody's alarmed at the turn of events. This should not be the case… and at this point, if they have decided to visit mayhem on us using excessive state powers, time will tell,” he added. Meanwhile, the Manhyia South MP has been granted bail by EOCO to a sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties. Watch his interview below:
