WAFU U17 Championship: Black Starlets travel over 20 hours by road to Burkina Faso

Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets, have arrived in Ouagadougou after undertaking a road journey lasting more than 20 hours ahead of the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
The tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 10, 2026, with Ghana hoping to secure qualification for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Starlets first travelled from Accra to Bolgatanga, where they spent four days at the Winkogo Technical Centre continuing their preparations.
They then resumed their journey by bus to Burkina Faso on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

The trip followed Ghana’s recent training camp in Morocco, where the team played two friendly matches against the North African side.
The Starlets won the opening encounter 2-0 before Morocco claimed a 2-1 victory in the second game, scoring with the final kick of the match.
Ghana have been placed in Group B alongside hosts Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin.
The top two teams from the group will earn qualification to the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The extensive road travel has since raised questions about the welfare and logistics surrounding the young players, particularly amid security concerns in parts of the wider Sahel region.
