#DumsorMustStop: Yvonne Nelson to stage another protest, calls for support

Prominent Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has once again taken to the internet to gather support from her fellow citizens in response to the ongoing power outages.

Recently hinting at organizing a new 'dumsor' protest, similar to the one in 2015, she has now issued a formal statement outlining her plans.

Looking back, Yvonne led the #DumsorMustStop vigil in 2015 with well-known figures such as Kofi Bentil of Imani Ghana, Prince David Osei, D Black, Van Vicker, Efya, Sarkodie, Barima Sidney, DKB and others.

On April 30, 2024, she shared a message on Twitter expressing her alarm about the resurgence of severe power shortages and urged collective action to hold the authorities accountable.

Amidst the recurring power issues, Yvonne Nelson is mobilizing Ghanaians for another round of activism.

"Back in 2015, I, along with the support of Imani Ghana's Kofi Bentil, Prince David Osei, D Black, Van Vicker, Efya, Sarkodie, Barima Sidney, and DKB, among others, spearheaded the DumsorMustStop Campaign. This campaign aimed at holding our leaders accountable for the inadequate electricity supply plaguing our nation. Together, we rallied for change and demanded action from the government of the time, despite facing significant challenges and opposition.

"Fast forward to today, and it is disheartening to witness the return of Dumsor, casting a shadow over our progress and development as a nation. I never imagined that we would find ourselves in this situation once again, and the fact that it persists for another long period is truly alarming. In light of these troubling developments, I have taken to social media to reach out to Imani Ghana, who supported the initial DumsorMustStop Campaign, to explore the possibility of organizing another vigil. We must come together once again to demand accountability and action from our leaders," parts of her statement read.

Yvonne noted that some individuals, like Kofi Bentil, who participated in the 2015 vigil, seem to have shifted their support to the current administration.

She stated these observations while emphasizing that the struggle against Dumsor goes beyond political lines, calling for national unity to confront this critical issue.

"Since the 2015 movement, some participants, including Kofi Bentil, who provided legal support from Imani Ghana, appear to have sided with the present government. Nevertheless, the battle against Dumsor is not about politics; it's a national concern that requires the unity of all Ghanaians," Yvonne remarked.

She also underscored the need for solidarity and joint efforts, acknowledging that she cannot face this challenge alone."
