Members of the Committed Drivers Association have called on government to ban Uber, a location based app that makes hiring an on-demand private driver easy.
In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Chairman for the Committed Drivers Association, Charles Danso argued that there are road traffic regulations available to persons running taxi services in the country but those rules are being ignored.
He said to run taxi services in Ghana, one needs an identified vehicle with a taxi sign, belong to an association and pay the necessary taxes. He added that the NDC administration gave Uber and other private transport services the permit to operate, ignoring all these laws.
He stated that these private taxi services do not pay taxes to the government unlike the traditional taxi drivers and must therefore be given the needed attention.
According to Charles Danso, there is no need for the recent attacks on galamsey operators when Uber drivers are still in operation in Ghana.
