THE PAIN OF THE PRIVATE PHYSICIAN ASSIS.
Is worth pursuing PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (popularly called PA) in a private school in Ghana? You will say BIG NO if you know what they go through in Ghana. The PA is a graduate of any recognised and accepted institution (being PRIVATE or GOVERNMENT) in Ghana. Mostly PA has to pass the Medical and Dental Council (MDC ) Exams, be given the TEMPORARY LICENCE for INTERNSHIP, before being given the PERMANENT LICENCE for active practice and yearly renewals. PA is just like a Dr, in fact some most are too good that it's at times difficult to distinguish between the 2. Most PA are the succes the county's community health. The essence of the private institutions include supporting the education in Ghana especially when government facilities cannot accommodate all students from SHS. Previously there's the perception that only those with ''bad grades'' or the rich attend private schools, however your can now find PROFESSIONALS from other field of practice or low income earner being supported in the private schools because of their desire or demand by the country's medical challenges Please allow me to break down some costs the PA bear before getting into active practice 1) SCHOOL FESS (3-4 years)- now GHC 30,000- 50,000 2) MDC SITTING EXAMS - GHC 740 3) MDC TEMPORARY LICENCE ( for posting by MOH for your internship , equivalent to service or temporary employment in Ghana) - GHC 700 3) MDC LICENSE EXTENSION (whether posting was delayed by MOH or you, you pay a penalty for extension for maximum of 6 months)- GHC 50 4) MDC PERMANENT license - GHC 530 So you'll now bear with me that MDC alone takes over GHC 2,000 before you can practice fully in Ghana Apart from the the different LOW FEES + GOVERNMENT SCHOOL ALLOWANCE (BOND) a PA from government institution bear or gain as all PA pay the MDC charges too, and IS POSTED BY MOH ( MINISTRY OF HEALTH) WITH SIMILAR RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTO SIMILAR INSTITUTIONS Interestingly however the PA FROM PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS IS DEPRIVED OF ANY RENUMERATION- simply NO ALLOWANCE OVER THE 1 FULL YEAR DUTIES. Information getting to me indicate that the government pays the PA from the government institutions who are also doing the 1 internship close to GHC 1,000 PER MONTH- once again NOTHING FOR THE PRIVATE GRADUATED PA WITH SIMILAR CERTIFICATE BY MDC, POSTED WITH SIMILAR RESPONSIBILITY BY MOH-MDC Some reasons reaching me for such heartless and wicked painful treatments by MOH - WHICH IS ALSO AGAINST THE LABOUR ACT include 1) the government graduated PA was bonded while in school 2) the private graduated PA are working in government institutions but didn't attend government schools, etc Such reasons have NO STAND!!!! In recent times there's been the rise of different PA groups, some registered, all with aim to fight for their rights- GPAA, GRAPAG, PAG, etc However the question is must people always form coalitions against a government before they're hear or treated with respect? Ghana never learn. In a way for government to cheat the private PA government has placed them on National Service Scheme( NSS) to give them NSS allowance instead of their DUE INTERNSHIP ALLOWANCES. This act was done to medical doctors and they , up to dates, rejected it and as such are payed full internship allowances. So not that MOH-MDC didn't know the right thing to do but would want to breach the Labour Act and take advantage of the private graduated PA. Several attempts since 3 years back to give due allowances to the private PA has failed. There are a lot of smelling cans to open on these PA FROM PRIVATE SCHOOLS but will hold on for now However tell respond truthfully to these questions after learning these fact, knowing also that after you get permanent license you don't automatically get employed by the government: 1) Based on the above, IS IT WORTH to pursue PA in a private school in Ghana? 2) 2 different groups in Ghana , with similar MDC certificate, posted by similar MOH for similar duties but DIFFERENT ALLOWANCES GHC 1000- GOVERNMENT PA GHC. NIL - PRIVATE PA Dr. K. Nkrumah - people rise to chaos not because they want to but because ...... Thank you!!!! NB: THIS IS NOT POLITICS AGAINST ANY PARTY BUT INVOLVES THE 2 LAST GOVERNMENT

This the problem with Ghanaians, we never think through our policies. We can't export the excess power becos it's more expensive than that of other counties like ivory coast. Valco collapsed becos even with the akosombo power the aluminium produced was more expensive than that of China and US so there was no export market for the aluminium and Ghana does not have an aluminium industry, that's why the American investors in Valco sold their shares and left and Valco has become a "white horse". Why sign contracts for expensive power? We can't even sell to local industries.
