What did this con man did for Ghana's education? Nothing. If he really believes in the system he set for Ghana, why didn't he let his children taste it? That is not very helpful in our attempts to rebuild the Nation. We need to be more proactive and take the challenge of fixing the specific malaise afflicting our Rducation, now. We need to curb corruption that redirects Education Funds into individual pockets, let the Teachers and other Educators brainstorm for better and lasting Programs to more efficiently equip the kids for the rapidly changing Economic dynamics out there and helping to manage our Resources ourselves.
Quality Education needs money and apt supervision plus constant monitoring of success.
Why blame our Education woes on Rawlings and NDC alone. Please, be truthful to admit that Education in Ghana began sliding way before J. J. 's Administrstions and never saw any significant turnaround since.
When the Elementary Schools were slapped with School Fees, and bribery for admission into Secondary Schools and Varsities began, the quality of Education began to dip precipitously. At the Varsities, introduction of post-GCE interviews further facilitated the "Kalabule". Soon after that came the rush to abandon various recreational facilities or sale of such to incompetent private Businesses whose only goal was to make killer profits off them. An example is the Swimming Pool facility at KNUST. The Supply of food to the KNUST, also was outsourced to a dubious private entities. Then followed rising student demonstrations on lack of quality food, water and books.
No significant efforts by all the subsequent Gov'ts. were made and the rot spread to sheer payment of Salaries to Teachers and Professors all over. We lost the best and dedicated Teachers and caused politics to decide the fate of our Children's Education.
The repeated and frequent changing of our Curriculli and durations of the various stages of Schooling is indicative of a directionless path void of realistic benchmarks that reflect the Market needs of today or tomorrow.
Every new Education Department coming along with a new Government arrogantly imposes a new set of standards and Grade Levels without due consultations with the Teachers and the Professors.
And the rest of us keep electing the same crooked and insensitive, selfish and greedy Politicians back in Office. The Inspectorate division of our Education outfit ought to be reinvigorated. Teachers must be offered incentives to excel. And taking their training allowance away at this time is the most uninspiring thing to do to them.
