Are the chickens coming home to roost? For decades a vocal uninformed minority among the Akans, especially among the Ashantis and Akyems, have associated the whole VR with Ewes who they dislike so intensely and who they would want to see taken out of Ghana. It is this unfortunate perception that lies at the root of all the NPP's miscues to the VR. It is interesting that now that reality seems to be following the art, we are now calling for arrests. You ought to know that any arrests would only create martyrs for the cause. Better to leave it where it is: a paper (pipe) dream.
However, this issue must not be confused with the Ewe Unification Movement. We want a region of Ghana that would extend from the Volta River to the Mono River. That would right the wrongs of colonialism, strengthen Ghana and hasten Ecowas integration.

Ashantis never hate Ewes. Infact Ashantis do not know who Ewes are or which part of Ghana they are located. Honestly even most educated Ashantis don't know or care to know who Ewes are or what they are up to. Ashantis are too busy and so much wanna make it in life and for their families to waste precious time and energy hating Ewes. If you think I'm lying get to cosmopolitan Kumasi and randomly ask people you think are Ashantis who Ewes are and what they think about them. They know and care less to nothing about what the fuck Ewes are saying, doing or about to do in that Volta region of theirs.
Just stop this illusion of war with Ashantis because Ashantis will never fight Ewes. They would rather fight poverty, ignorance and disease. Ashantis are self-sufficient, self-helping and resilient.
I'm an Ashanti and I don't hate Ewes (though they hate us), neither do I care about the activities of Ewes (though I personally know the inward-looking, separatist behavior of Ewes).
I don’t know the feelings of Akyems towards Ewes, but I believe they too never have time to hate Ewes.

You sound very ignorant indeed Clytourist! You claim that you and your Asante compatriots don't hate Ewes and that it's rather Ewes who hate you people, and yet you've insulted the Ewes by attributing to them the notion of having adopted an "inward-looking separatist behavior". One major problem you Asantes have is that you all have big logs in your eyes while trying to remove specks on others' eyes and until you come to terms with this truth and heed Jesus' advice and remove your logs first, you'll perpetually remain blind and ignorant.
Which ethnic group in the whole of Ghana is as "inward-looking" as the Asantes? Just consider your false sense of superiority in everything you do. Look, for instance, at how you treat your Paramount Chief as the king of the entire Ghana and the number of Twi-speaking radio stations you have, assuming that every Ghanaian speaks or must be able to speak Twi. Likewise, consider the number of educational institutions in Asanteland that you've named after your "heroes". Can you, on the other hand, point to one exclusively Ewe radio station in Ghana and an educational institution in Eweland that is named after an Ewe ancestor? Who are the real "inward-looking" people in Ghana then?
You've stated, "Just stop this illusion of war with Ashantis because Ashantis will never fight Ewes." It's in this statement that Asanrtes will never fight Ewes that you've demonstrated your gross ignorance. In the first place, it's the kind of the constant Asante insults of the Ewes like yours that will lead to a civil war between Ewes and Asantes. It's often said that history repeats itself.
Indeed, in pursuit of their expansionist ideology, your Asante people committed suicide by invading Eweland between 1869-73, at the invitation of the Akwamu king Akoto. He wanted to subject the Ewe people, represented by the Krepis (led by the Peki and Ho peoples), who had thrown away their Akwamu yoke and therefore he invited his Asante allies to assist them. This war, which is known in Eweland as the great Asante war, lasted for four years and the Asantes were almost totally annihilated. The last battle was fought at Sokode (six miles from Ho) by the end of which only four of 24 Asante generals who led their troops, including Adu Boafo(?), the overall Asante general, were left and returned to Kumasi,
If you doubt the above brief history, refer to the Three Great Oaths of Asante. The third oath, which is the Asante lament of the annihilation by the Ewes of the former, is dedicated to this war.
The great defeat of the Asantes in this war was so embarrassing to the whole Asante nation that their historians have up to today failed to write or even mention it in their history books.
From the above alone, it's nonsensical for Asantes to constantly insult Ewes as being inward-looking. The truth is that no ethnic group is as inward-looking as the Asantes. The danger is that if you Asantes have not stopped pouring your continued insults and contempt on Ewes, it'd eventually lead to a civil war. I can assure you that in the event of any such war, the Asantes can never ever defeat the Ewes!

Doc,
Thanks so much for writing this article, and hopefully more. As u might be aware, I had touched on this issue in my piece, 'How some "Ewes" Became Part of Ghana'. Shall re-post it here.
With the publicity these groups have attained lately, I was planning to write an extended piece on it. Yours is timely.
First, I say take it easy. These people are not [yet] terrorists. They are simply feeding into the high level of discontent in the VR which you may not be aware of. At their re-emergence on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the plebiscite they held major meetings in Ho, which were attended by many prominent people from the region. Lawyers, police officers, soldiers, businessmen, etc., were associated.
For many people in the VR, not only ordinary people, their ready made answer to all the insults and nonsense like Voltarians are leeches on the Akans you read on Ghanaweb and in Ghana directed at Ewes in particular is: that's why we must secede.
These groups since then have managed to set up cells and garnered significant followers, sympathisers and activists across the whole VR, starting from the southern Anlo area. Don't know about the TVT area outside the VR. They hold meetings and appear on radio programmes, written letters to the govt, the UN and the British govt. The authorities are aware of these things but let them be, and, to tell you the truth, interest in them by the VR elite has waned considerably since they couldn't substantiate their claim of a clause in the plebiscite conditions which stipulated a 50 yr review.
Any precipitate action by the govt will simply drive them underground and the fridge elements might turn in the terrorists you dread. Previous govts in the past, up to the PNDC era, used to arrest people like them but the groups had rather multiplied. In the 90s, there were about five. Now, there appears to be only two. I suggest we rather use dialogue and cogent debate to nullify them, while taking cognisant of their grounds for discontent and redressing them, chief among them being the neglect of the TVT areas in sharing the national cake, despite the substantial contributions their areas and people make to the country's GDP. Most educated Ghanaians don't even know that cocoa is produced in the VR.
Now, your article contains some historical inaccuracies. The accurate history would have fortified your article and case against these revanchist irredentists, because that's what they are. For instance, the TVT was actually the area the British declared control over after the Sagranti War of 1874 when the Asantes and their allies were defeated. As you know, the Akwamus and the Asantes claimed suzerainty over those areas even though the Krepi area was in full-flung revolt since 1833 when Kwadwo Dei I of Peki broke away from the unholy alliance. Yes, that revolt eventually brought the Akyem Gen. Dompey and Ahoofe's great grandfather to Krepi in the 1860s and Ahoofe is reliving those fights in his manic nightmares with the "Anlo-Ewes" to this day. I intend to tell all. In fact, the series has been ready for years now. So, the TVT was indeed a British Protectorate before being handed over to the Germans in 1884 by the British.
Also, the British didn't take over the whole of Togo and Eweland. The French from Dahomey took over the eastern half in the 1915 defeat of the Germans.
There are other subtle issues you haven't mentioned, the unification of Togo to Ghana movt, for instance.

This is an afterthought response to C.K Andy-K’s comments.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. However, I don’t agree that there is a “neglect of the TVT areas in sharing the national cake” by Ghana governments. If you travel across Ghana, you will find that the state of affairs in the VR are similar everywhere or relatively better than those in some regions. For instance, the roads in the VR are relatively better than those in some regions and/or districts, such as northeastern part of Western Region, Upper West Region and Akyem Abuakwa in the ER. As such, the so-called neglect in the VR, to me, is a pretext.
Now back to your comments; I find your critique on some aspects of my piece inappropriate. The thrust of my article was twofold: 1) to dismiss as bogus the HSGF’s claims; and 2) to educate by debunking the myth many Ghanaians misguidedly associate the inhabitants in the British Togoland with Ewes; hence “number 9 [people].” My article was not, in any way or fashion, about the broad history of the former German colony of Togoland and that of the British Togoland. You should also know that online discourse is not the forum for a broad discussion of every issue related to a subject matter. Even so, everything I wrote is verifiable, as well as supported by other works, including mine and those of the UN. So, I don’t see any historical inaccuracies you indicated. No one has monopoly over data.
While I appreciate your concern about a possible backlash if the leadership of the HSGF are arrested, we should also be mindful that civil wars and violent dissensions across post-independence African often stem from similar false claims and misguided demands. Sadly, such false claims invariably play into the webs of Africa predators. Who was behind Busia’s Aliens “Compliance Order?” Who was behind the murder of Lumumba and subsequent civil war since then? Who was behind the Biafran war? From where do Boko-Haram get their “Boko” weapons and “Boko” technology? Who was behind the carnage in Rwanda? These are just a few examples. So, we have to go beyond the surface of the on-going political violence in Africa to unearth the puppeteers behind them. For what cause would Akufo Addo go and address the US-based “Heritage Foundation” about Ghana’s voter register for 2016 election?
Currently, I am revising, into a book, my 1977 MA history thesis on “The Pitfalls of Ewe Nationalism,” from a Pan-African perspective.

My advice to all of you is to read. These are all historical events well documented by the United Nations General Assembly. It looks like Kwame Botwe-Asamoah, Ph. D, is an intellectual. One would expect that his article would be devoid of emotions and represent facts and maturity.
Please google and read for yourself the history of the territory called ‘British Togoland’.
1. Start with: Togoland suzerainty in West Africa from 1884 to 1914
2. Read the Trusteeship Agreement no.120 for the territory of Togoland under British Administration approved by the UN General Assembly on 13 December 1946
3. Read the plebiscite held on the 9th May, 1956; take note of the plebiscite questions and the plebiscite commissioner’s report
4. Read UN Resolution 1044(XI) and find out the difference between ‘Integration’ and ‘Union’ when these terms are used by the UN General Assembly
5. Read Ghana Independence Act 1956 and take note of the territories mentioned in the Gold Coast Independence Act of 1956.
6. Read also and interpret the letter dated 6 March 1957 by the United Kingdom Government informing the Secretary-General of the United Nations that ‘with effect from midnight 6 March 1957, under the terms of the Ghana Independence Act 1956, the territories previously comprised in the Gold Coast became the independent State of Ghana and that under the same Act, the union of the former Trust Territory of Togoland under British administration with the independent State of Ghana took place from the same time and date’.
Your guess is as good as mine. One begins to ask the obvious question: Is the territory being referred to as the Trust Territory of Togoland under British administration an administrative region of Ghana?

You miss the point Botwe-Assamoah. This is not about German Togoland. It is about the Ewe Unification Movement which started in 1919 long before the Antor's Togoland Unification Movement.
Even if these people have a legitimate reason, I think it might have out-lived its usefulness. But what Ghana is hiding from its citizens is teaching the true history of Ghana with British Togoland in Ghanaian schools. And the reason is the fear of such groups emerging. When I read the history on the issue of the union of British Togoland with the Gold Coast, 2 main questions come to mind:
1) Why was the CPP, a Gold Coast party allowed to campaign as opposition party in British Togoland during the Plebiscite and not an opposition party native to British Togoland?
2) When a Union with the Gold Coast was proposed were the people of the Gold Coast asked if they agreed that British Togoland joined them?
The latter question was one of the despotic characteristics of Nkrumah that the Ashanti hated so much and which destroyed Ghana during Nkrumah's reign. The only reason the British prevented a united Togoland was the need to incorporate the Volta River into the Gold Coast for the hydro-electric power so much needed to mine the vast mineral resources of the New Ghana which will soon be part of the British Commonwealth! Crying terrorism when there is none is treacherous.
Don’t silence people with the threat of terrorism, educate them on their history. Your one sided presentation does not make you a good scholar

THAT IT IS MY FIRM BELIEVED IN THE NOTION THAT AS PEOPLE OF GHANA "WE ARE ONE PEOPLE WITH A COMMON DESTINY.
THAT TOGETHER WE CAN AND WE WILL BUILD A PROSPEROUS GHANA.
GOD BLESS GHANA AND UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Charles Kudjordjie
Charles Kudjordjie, Chairman, HSGF
The Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), a group based in Ho in the Volta Region agitating for the restoration of so called Western Togoland as a state is to declare independence for Western Togoland on May 9, 2017.
According to the group, Western Togoland existed and was not part of Ghana as at the time Ghana achieved independence and that Western Togoland stretches from Bawku East district in the Upper East region and bordering the Volta River up to the Gulf of Guinea.
The vice chairman of HSGF, Mr G.Y Agrah (in the picture below) made the declaration at a consultative meeting with some chiefs drawn from the Volta region and a section of the public at the Volta Regional Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Ho on Tuesday.
In all, 107 persons were in attendance at the consultative meeting which aimed at fashioning strategies for the way forward towards the achievement of their agenda.
According to him the people of the Western Togoland were “plebiscite citizens in Ghana”, adding that not until a declaration was made on May 9, next year, the people will remain an appendix to the former Gold Coast which is now Ghana.
He said it is now belated for 102 years when the Western Togoland attached to Ghana through the machinations of the British colonialists and had created several impediments in the way of citizens although world historical documents had revealed that Western Togoland was a state and not a territory of Ghana.
He said the Western Togoland was not for only Ewes but consisted of other tribes and that the sovereignty of Western Togoland is non- negotiable, adding that Ghana’s hold on to Western Togoland is illegal and must be denounced and decoupled.
The chairman of the HSGF, Mr Charles Kudjordjie (pictured above) said the foundation was set up in 1994 after realizing that it was only in the Volta region that a plebiscite was held to join Ghana unlike other regions.
He said the region voted for a union without any unionized constitution promulgated up till now.
Mr Kudjordjie recounted alleged atrocities visited on the people of the Western Togoland in cases such as Apollo 568, the construction of Akosombo dam, the alien compliance order, unsavoury utterances against Ewes, among others.
He said the foundation will not resort to arms and warfare in fighting for their cause but through correspondence and dialogue with the government and United Nations.
An executive member of HSGF, Reverend O.K Klu likened the Western Togoland to a wife whose dowry had not been settled and had become bats swinging as birds or mammals.
He said although late, it is better late than never, adding that, there was no law backing the union with Ghana adding that the people should be prepared to be separated from Ghana in a peaceful manner to end the twin relationship with it.

An interesting read. Let's avoid calling them a terrorist group. Such a label only seeks to compel the unsuspecting public to their cause on emotional grounds because of the perceived fight for "justice".

The analysis of Kwame Botwe-Asamoah, Ph. D. make his M.A. degree questionable.I wish I had 10% of his education so that I could open his eyes to wisdom. He pretend to be cautioning but he is rather inciting the aggrieved to rebel. Moreover, it is wonderfully sad that he even wants at dust into the eyes of even President John Dramani Mahama who should rather be supported to make a noble move by creating a peaceful union for which a plebiscite was held in favor since 1956.We are all witnesses to many unpalatable conditions and insults that people of the said "Western Togoland" (NOT THE EWES ALONE)have been experiencing in Ghana. It is wise not to mention them if one seeks peace. The fact that the agitation is coming from the Ewes does not mean that the other tribes do not have the scars or deep chasms of wounds yet unhealed. Please, let peace touch peoples hearts to allow the people of Western Togoland enjoy a union they have prayed for through the ballot box in 1956 and stop enduring the effects of intellectual distortions contorted for University Degrees that set aside natural justice. The Volta Triangle and all that is crafted to distort the identity of the people is unnatural. But the natural repercussions are still hitting and blinding the conscience of people who are supposed to become stars for other. LET WISDOM AND REASON PREVENT PEOPLE LIKE THIS AUTHOR FROM CONFUSING "EVEN THE VERY ELECT". Period.

The writer of this article despite his many references with the aim to convince us is bias. For example the writer, 1.accepts the Gold Coast as an entity in itself even though it was Britain that brought some units and states together and gave that name. But the writer refuses to recognise Togoland as an entity because it was Germans who came with that name and also because the people on this land did not form kingdoms. Yet Eastern Togoland was given independence as an entity by France. We still maintain that Britain had a secret agenda for saying that it can no more administer british togoland at a time when gold coast was asking for independence. The writer has his right to look at these issues superficially.

In history,Volta is to be a country on it own just as Togo is a country on it own today.Have you all wonder why all the minerals in Volta is intact today?if you all don't know then you have to know that it was reserve for the time that Volta will be a country on it own.To the article writer, go back to the home land study group and they will take you through the history of western Togoland. The plebiscite as at that time was never meant for Western Togoland which was changed to Volta Region to be part of Ghana for ever but that Western Togoland which is Volta region today can decide to be a country on it own after 50 years so that's exactly what their doing. Please you all must be reminded that they are not saying that they want to be part of Togo but to be a country on it own, that's the fact
These people said they are not part of Ghana and you seems to be quoting Ghana's constitution to them, quote treaties and conventions, they sound convincing than your article
What're you saying, read the article again and try to understand what is written!
