The feature article by Solomon Mensah makes interesting reading. One gets the impression that there is no management in GBC, and that the Union is in charge there.
Why is it possible that a senior journalist could take a non-GBC worker on a free tour of the corporation just to make up stories? What did he seek to achieve? Where was the management?
The issues he sought to highlight were too petty.
Who is responsible for ensuring that the Makeup Room has the tools to work with? Is there a supervisor and are there managers who should be responsible?
Does the Head of TV News have any role to play? What about the Director of Television; the Deputy Director General and the Ag Director General?
Has the reporter spoken to the Management to find out why the make up rook is like that?
I have a few questions for the reporter and the Union at GBC.
? What exactly was the state of affairs inherited by this Board? The columnist must probe this. Ghanaians want to know.
? What was the state of the studios and who rented them out and why? Are there any studios still lying idle?
? How much of allowances are the Board Members receiving? Are they different from previous Boards and the Government approved rates?
? Do reporters always queue to file reports? Are there functioning photocopiers?
? Do the reporters use the facilities of GBC for their own personal work?
? In which organization can a Union Executive take outsiders on a free tour whilst the management sits aloof?
? Have the grievances of the Union being put to the management for resolution?
? Who is Alloete and the relationship with GBC?
Indeed the drama at GBC is interesting, but why is it that the Union at GBC believes that they are above everybody and behaving as if they own GBC?
Why is it that every Board at GBC since time immemorial has been chased out by the Union led by Michael Allotey, Sam Nat-Kevor and Bibini Nutor. They appear to be the only constant in the GBC drama.
Perhaps you should talk to the Concerned citizens in GBC, who have asked the Union Executives to;
? Account for the GH¢10,000 they collect every year during May Day Celebrations for snacks;
? Account for the proceeds from ZOYGardens which they run with staff from outside GBC;
They have indeed decided to vote them out.
Of course GBC with about 1900 staff most of whom have nothing to do will have the executives waste everybody’s time by engaging in frivolous issues. Most of the Union Executives are Accounts Officers. Why is that GBC Accounts have not been published since 2006?
The reporter should talk to the management, and if not satisfied perhaps talk to the Board. GBC is failing because a few Union Executives will not allow anybody to work.
Again the reporter should talk to the ordinary rank and file worker at GBC to find out what issues they have with the Board.
