‘Yaw Dabo did not make his money from acting’ - Sumsum Ahoufe alleges
Kumawood actor Sumsum Ahoufe has stated that colleague actor Yaw Dabo did not make his wealth from acting, arguing that acting in movies alone in Ghana cannot make actors rich.
According to Sumsum, although some actors have accumulated wealth over the years, they have done so by venturing into other businesses outside acting.
He cited actor Yaw Dabo as an example, explaining that while Dabo has acquired wealth and reached a significant level in his career, his wealth did not come primarily from acting but from his involvement in football.
Sumsum said Yaw Dabo’s wealth has largely come from his football administration and the operations of his team, Yaw Dabo Soccer Academy.
He further argued that if Dabo had not ventured into football, he might not have been able to build his house and achieve some of the things he has today solely through income from acting.

“My friend Yaw Dabo has money, but he didn’t acquire that wealth through acting movies. It is football that made him rich. God has blessed Yaw Dabo. If he had not ventured into football, he couldn’t have built his house or attained the level he has reached,” Sumsum said.
Speaking to KayB Media, Sumsum claimed that Dabo has made huge money from the sale of players from his football team, adding that he is aware the actor-turned-football administrator has sold at least four players in 2026 alone.
“This year alone, if Dabo hasn’t sold players, I know he has sold at least four. The team bus he uses, Kenpong wanted a player from Dabo’s team and exchanged the player for a bus,” he stated.
Sumsum maintained that while acting can bring fame and recognition to an actor, relying solely on movie roles as a source of income may not be enough to build substantial wealth.
“In the movie industry, though you will be famous, if you don’t do any business in addition, it wouldn’t help you,” he noted.
In the same conversation, Sumsum also spoke about how his appearance and the witchcraft roles he played in movies affected how people perceived him, particularly during the period when Ghanaian movies featuring such characters were popular.
He explained that because of his looks and the frightening characters he portrayed, some people became genuinely scared of him and would react fearfully whenever they encountered him outside the movies.
“Back in the day, people were scared of me because of the roles I played in movies. When I was younger, my eyes were also very big, so some people found me frightening. At the time, people thought some of the witchcraft scenes in movies were real, so they would get scared whenever they saw me in person,” he added.
