Businessman jailed for illegal firearm possession, threatening ECG officials

A 31-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Tsengor, has been sentenced to three weeks in prison for illegally possessing a firearm and threatening an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) monitoring officers. The incident occurred on April 30, 2026, during a routine monitoring exercise at Kodjomam, a suburb of Aklomoase in the Odumase Krobo Municipality. According to a post shared on X on September 29, 2026, ECG officials discovered an illegal electricity connection at Tsengor’s residence and disconnected the supply as part of their monitoring exercise. Tsengor, unhappy with the disconnection, allegedly went into his house, brought out a locally manufactured single-barrel gun and held the ECG officials at gunpoint. The officials subsequently reported the incident to the police, leading to Tsengor’s arrest and prosecution.
