Accra, Aug 24, GNA - A social worker has stressed the need to intensify sex education in schools to help children lead morally upright lives.
Mrs Helena Ntoah-Boadi, a Nurse at the Ridge Hospital who made the call at a public forum at Haatso, noted that with education, school children would be enabled to abstain from pre-marital sexual activities. The function was organised by the North Legon District Youth branch of the Church of Pentecost to sensitise members on the adverse effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
It was co-sponsored by Friends of the Aspiring and Married Couples (FOTAMAC), a Madina-based non-governmental organisation and the Ghana AIDS Control Programme.
Mrs Ntoah-Boadi who is also the Vice-President of FOTAMAC pointed out that the deadly disease posed danger to the lives of the youth who are the most vulnerable group and said it could be minimized through constant interaction to create awareness.
She advised the youth not to yield to pressures from their peers to indulge in pre-marital and unprotected sex, but to endeavour to lead lives worthy of emulation.
Mr Smith Appiah, Youth Leader noted that since the youth were the most active sexually, sex educators should not limit their education to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, but to educate the youth on all the Sexually-Transmitted Diseases.
Mr Appiah reiterated that the disease was real and urged the youth to do everything possible to guard against contracting the disease and to halt its spread. 24 Aug 03
