A suspect in Kenya's Westgate shopping mall terror attack case, who was freed by the court over lack of evidence, was abducted on his way home.

Local media reports state that the suspect was in a taxi with his sisters when unknown gunmen stopped them and took Liban Abdullahi Omar.

His lawyer, Mbugua Mureithi, told a Associated Press that the men identified themselves as security agents. Police have declined to comment.

They reportedly put him in a car boot of the vehicle they were in and took away the taxi's car keys as well.

The incident was reported at a police station in the capital, Nairobi.

The suspect was coming from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit offices in Nairobi.

He had been released from the Kamiti Maximum Prison and was going through clearance at the ant-terror office, as is the procedure with terror suspects.

Mr Omar's brother was killed alongside three other al-Shabab attackers during the September 2013 attack.

He had been charged with two other suspects who were found guilty of aiding terrorists. The two will be sentenced on 22 October.
