Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) has called on all civilians who own or sell military uniforms, shoes, bags, or any other particulars similar to military uniforms to hand them over seven days from today, August 24, 2023.
The TPDF’s communications and public relations acting director, Lieutenant Colonel Gaudentius Ilonda, told journalists that after the seven days are over, whoever is found with the listed particulars will be punished according to the law.
Those who have or sell the items mentioned should surrender at TPDF’s camps, to local government chairmen, and to police stations.
"Our intention is not to bother civilians. However, after the lapse of seven days, our soldiers will be on the streets to collect those uniforms," he said.
Some civilians have on occasion worn clothing that resembles a military uniform, with such outfits considered fashionable. The military has issued warnings in the past, and the current exercise is just a reiteration.
